The City as Canvas initiative is the first community based city-wide public art mural program of its kind within the City of Syracuse. There are a total of 8 murals, one in each of the TNT sectors.
How it works:
1) Potential mural locations are identified within each TNT sector by community member suggestions or property owners offering a surface for a mural.
2) All viable locations are brought to the TNT sector, for which they are located, and voted upon.
3) Local artists submit a civic pride themed design for the selected location.
4) The TNT sector selects the final design through a ranked-choice ballot process.
*Funding for this program is made possible by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding from the City of Syracuse. Please note, due to the nature of the funding source, the City as Canvas program is specifically designed to provide economic relief to local artists, living or operating a creative space within the City of Syracuse, who were economically impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
